Mia Thomas

School: Cathedral Catholic High School

Grade: Freshman

 

Mia was born and raised in the San Diego area. Both her father Bruce and mother Michella, are engineers. Her mother is an accomplished open water swimmer, completing individually the Catalina Channel crossing in 2013. Her grand mother is also an international level swimmer who participated in the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. Inspired by her grandmother and mother, Mia started competitive swimming at 6 and specializes in mid distance freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. A member of the Senior squad at NCA, she has Sectional and Western Zones time standards and is consistently ranked amongst the top in her age group in San Diego Imperial. She participated in multiple open water swims and won the La Jolla Cove Rough Water Swim, the Coronado 4th of July Rough Water Swim and the Del Mar Powerhouse several years in a row. She has been part of the San Diego Junior Lifeguard program for over 6 years and was named Captain for 2 consecutive years. A freshman in high school with a 4.0 GPA, she would like to attend Stanford University and eventually pursue a career as a cardiac surgeon or a physical therapist. Mia is also a pianist and, in her spare time, loves to bake.

Heloise Leblanc

Relay Swimmer

School: Canyon Crest Academy

Grade: Sophomore

Heloise was born in Quebec City, Canada and moved to San Diego in 2007. Her father is a Veterinarian and her mother is a Neuro-Ophthalmologist. Heloise comes from a family of swimmers. Her father was a long distance swimmer while her Uncle was an international level swimmer who won over 30 national titles in France and went to the Olympic Games in1988. Her
aunt was also a college swimmer for ASU and is a national age group triathlon champion. Inspired by her family, Heloise started competitive swimming at 6 and specializes in long distance freestyle. A member of the Senior squad at NCA, she has Sectional and Western Zones time standards and is
consistently ranked amongst the top long distance swimmer in her age group in San Diego Imperial. She participated in multiple open water swims including the La Jolla Rough Water Gatorman, the Coronado 4th of July Rough Water Swim and the Del Mar Powerhouse Swim. A Sophomore in high school with a 4.1 GPA, she would like to attend Cornell University and eventually pursue a career as a Neurosurgeon. Heloise is also an accomplished pianist, participating in concerts and playing for charities in San Diego. She enjoys reading and photography and loves
traveling throughout the world.

Erin Taggart

Relay Swimmer

School: Earl Warren Middle School

Grade: 8th

Erin was born in Atlanta, GA and lived in Texas until she moved to the San Diego area in 2010. Both her parents, Sally and Steve, are engineers and former swimmers. Her mother was also a high level triathlete, ranking amongst the best in the world in the 90s. Inspired by her parents, Erin started competitive swimming at 6 and specializes in long distance freestyle, individual medley and butterfly. Swimming under Coaches Rob Mackle and Nate Chessey, she qualified for Zones, Far westerns and Junior Olympics. She also participated in multiple open water swims including the Del Mar Powerhouse Swim and the La Jolla Cove Rough Water Swim. A Math and English Honors student, Erin would like to attend Stanford or MIT in Engineering. In her spare time, Erin volunteers for the Rancho Coastal
Humane Society and enjoys writing and reading.

Tegan Preston

Relay Swimmer

School: Earl Warren Middle School

Grade: 8th

Tegan was born in Melbourne, Australia, lived in Japan for a year and then moved to California when she was 6 years old. Her father, Jeremy, is a Director of Marketing at a biotech company and her mother, Sian, is a personal trainer and entrepreneur. Tegan started competitive swimming at 7 and specializes in breaststroke and individual medley. Swimming under Coaches Rob Mackle and Nate Chessey, she qualified for Far Westerns,
Junior Olympics and was a finalist at the Western Zones Championships as well as the Speedo Grand Challenge swim meet. She participated in multiple open water swims including the Del Mar Powerhouse and the La Jolla Cove Rough Water Swims. An English Honors student, Tegan would like to attend Cal Berkeley and eventually pursue a career in Physical Therapy. Tegan is a member of Kids Korp and has volunteered for food banks in San Diego. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and traveling with her family.

Lindsay Turner

Relay Swimmer

School: Aviara Oaks Middle School

Grade: 8th

Lidsay was born and raised in the San Diego area. Her father, Dave is a retired realtor and her mother, Eileen, is a Plant Manager. Lindsay started competitive swimming at 8 and specializes in mid distance freestyle and butterfly. Swimming under Coaches Rob Mackle and Nate Chessey, she qualified for Western Zones Championships, Farwesterns, and Junior Olympics and was a multiple finalist at the last San Diego Imperial Winter Age Group Championships finishing 3rd in the 200 free and 200 fly. She participated in multiple open water swims including the Del Mar Powerhouse and the La Jolla Cove Rough Water Swim. A English and Math Honors student, Lindsay would like to attend Cal Berkeley and eventually pursue a career in Medicine as a surgeon. In her spare time, she enjoys stand up paddle boarding and traveling with her family throughout the United States.

Anna Brooker

Relay Swimmer

School: Aviara Oaks Middle School

Grade: 8th

Anna was born in Baltimore, MD, and moved to California when she was 2 years old. Her father, George, is an Anesthesiologist and her mother, Pamela, is a speech pathologist and both were former national and college swimmers for the University of Iowa. Inspired by her parents, Anna started competitive swimming at 6 and specializes in mid distance freestyle and backstroke. Swimming under Coaches Rob Mackle and Nate Chessey, she qualified for Western Zones, Far westerns, Junior Olympics. She participated in multiple
open water swims including the Del Mar Powerhouse and the La Jolla Cove Rough Water Swim. A Math and English Honors student, Anna would like to attend the University of North Carolina and eventually pursue a career in Physical Therapy. Anna has volunteered for church charities and the Kids Korps. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with friends.

Mia Ryan

Alternate Relay Swimmer

School: University City High School

Grade: Freshman

Mia was born and raised in the San Diego area. Both her father, Tom and mother, Jennifer, are entrepreneurs. Her father was a Division 1 Baseball player at the University of Pittsburgh. Inspired by her mother, Mia started competitive swimming at 7 and specializes in freestyle and butterfly. A member of the Senior squad at NCA, she has Western Zones time standards and was a multiple finalist at the last San Diego Imperial Winter Age Group Championships placing 2nd on the 50 free and 4th on the 100 free. She participated in several open water swims including the Coronado 4th of July Classic. A freshman in high school and honor student, she would like to attend Cal Berkeley and eventually pursue a career as a physician in sports
medicine or a physical therapist. In her spare time, Mia loves to paddle board and surf.
